Notes, Content Sharing, and User Rights
This section explains your rights and our policies regarding notes, content sharing, and data protection in accordance with Indian laws, including the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
1. Ownership and Intellectual Property Rights
Content Ownership
- Your Content: You retain all ownership rights to the notes, documents, and other content you upload to our platform. By uploading content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and distribute your content as per your privacy settings.
- Original Work: You represent and warrant that all content you upload is either your original work or you have obtained all necessary permissions, licenses, and consents to upload and share such content.
- Copyright Protection: All content uploaded to our platform is protected under the Copyright Act, 1957 of India. We respect intellectual property rights and comply with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
- Attribution: When you share notes publicly, your username and profile information may be displayed with your content. You can control the visibility of your content through privacy settings.
2. Content Sharing and Distribution
Sharing Controls
- Public Sharing: When you mark notes as "public," they become accessible to all users of the platform. Public notes may be indexed by search engines and shared by other users within the platform.
- Private Notes: Notes marked as "private" are only accessible to you. We do not share, display, or distribute private notes to any third party without your explicit consent.
- Collection Sharing: Notes included in public collections may be visible to users browsing those collections. You can remove notes from collections at any time.
- Download Rights: Users may download public notes for personal, non-commercial educational purposes. Commercial use of downloaded content requires permission from the content creator.
- Sharing Restrictions: You may not share content that violates Indian laws, including but not limited to content that is defamatory, obscene, infringes copyright, or promotes illegal activities.
3. User Rights Under Indian Law
Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023
In accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the following rights:
- Right to Information (Section 11): You have the right to obtain information about your personal data, including what data we collect, how we use it, and with whom we share it.
- Right to Correction and Erasure (Section 12): You can request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data. You also have the right to request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to Grievance Redressal (Section 13): You have the right to register a grievance with us regarding the processing of your personal data. We will respond to your grievance within 30 days as per the Act.
- Right to Nominate (Section 14): You may nominate another individual to exercise your rights under the Act in case of your death or incapacity.
Information Technology Act, 2000
- Section 43A - Compensation for Failure to Protect Data: We are liable to pay compensation if we fail to protect your sensitive personal data or information, resulting in wrongful loss or gain to any person.
- Section 72A - Punishment for Disclosure of Information: We are bound to maintain confidentiality of your personal information. Unauthorized disclosure of your information is punishable under this section.
- Intermediary Liability: As an intermediary under Section 79 of the IT Act, we follow due diligence requirements and comply with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
4. Content Moderation and Removal
Content Moderation Policy
- Prohibited Content: We reserve the right to remove content that violates our Terms of Service, Indian laws, or community guidelines, including content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes intellectual property rights.
- Notice and Takedown: In compliance with Rule 3(1)(d) of the IT Rules, 2021, we have a mechanism for users to report objectionable content. We will act on valid complaints within 36 hours as per the Rules.
- Content Removal: You can delete your notes at any time. Deleted notes will be removed from public view immediately, though backup copies may be retained for up to 90 days for security and legal compliance purposes.
- Account Suspension: Repeated violations of our policies may result in account suspension or termination, in accordance with our Terms of Service.
5. Data Retention and Storage
Retention Policy
- Active Content: Your notes and content will be stored on our servers as long as your account is active and the content has not been deleted by you.
- Deleted Content: When you delete notes, they are immediately removed from public access. Backup copies may be retained for up to 90 days for data recovery and legal compliance purposes, after which they are permanently deleted.
- Account Deletion: Upon account deletion, all your personal data and content will be permanently deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by Indian law or for legitimate business purposes.
- Legal Requirements: We may retain certain data for longer periods if required by Indian law, court orders, or for resolving disputes, as permitted under Section 6(1) of the DPDP Act, 2023.
- Data Localization: In compliance with Indian data localization requirements, your personal data and content are primarily stored on servers located within India.
6. Third-Party Sharing and Disclosure
Sharing Policy
- No Sale of Content: We do not sell, rent, or trade your notes or personal information to third parties for commercial purposes.
- Service Providers: We may share your data with trusted service providers who assist us in operating our platform (e.g., cloud storage, analytics), subject to strict confidentiality agreements and compliance with Indian data protection laws.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by Indian law, court orders, or government authorities, in compliance with Section 69 of the IT Act, 2000, and other applicable laws.
- Public Content: Notes marked as "public" may be accessible to third-party search engines and may be indexed. You can change the privacy setting of your notes at any time.
- Aggregated Data: We may share anonymized, aggregated data (that cannot identify you) for research, analytics, or business purposes, in compliance with Section 8(7) of the DPDP Act, 2023.
7. Grievance Redressal Mechanism
Complaint Process
In compliance with Rule 3(2) of the IT Rules, 2021, we have appointed a Grievance Officer to address your concerns:
- Grievance Officer: You can contact our Grievance Officer for any complaints regarding content, data privacy, or platform usage.
- Response Time: We will acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days, as per the IT Rules, 2021.

Our platform complies with the following Indian laws and regulations:
- Information Technology Act, 2000: Compliance with data protection, intermediary liability, and cybersecurity provisions.
- Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011: Implementation of reasonable security practices for protecting sensitive personal data.
- Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023: Adherence to data protection principles, user rights, and data processing obligations.
- Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021: Compliance with intermediary due diligence, content moderation, and grievance redressal requirements.
- Copyright Act, 1957: Respect for intellectual property rights and implementation of notice and takedown procedures.
